Wow. That is why everybody had them number one.
I wanted to pick Ted Ginn, Jr. as my preseason Heisman Trophy winner, but settled on Adrian Peterson instead, and as I was watching the first quarter of this game, I was wondering why I changed my mind. But then again, maybe I should have picked Troy Smith, he wasn't bad either.
Anyhow, the Buckeyes absolutely jumped NI in this one early. So much so, that I decided it was better to change over to Penn State/Akron midway through the second quarter. By that point it was 28-0 and it didn't appear that it was going to get any better. But the Huskies were resilient and actually provided some quality football from that point on.
There was one point early in the game, that had NIU scored it might have turned out to be a pretty decent football game. The Huskies were on their way into the end zone to cut it to 14-7, when Ohio State made an interception and ran it back and gave them their own short field. A few plays later it was 21-0, and the Buckeyes were getting Freshman Chris Wells geared up on the sidelines. He scored on the next possession and I changed the channel.
But I'm sure there were a few concerns in the Bucks camp when Garrett Wolfe started running wild. Wolfe is no slouch, third all-time in the NCAA among active runners, but he's not Texas either and Ohio State better sure some things up this week. Otherwise, #1 maybe 1-1 pretty soon.
