West Virginia continued to be very good for short periods, and slightly unimpressive for the rest. But as has been the case more often then not of late, the Mountaineers cruised to a 45-28 win over Maryland.
WVU jumped out to an early 28-0 behind the running of Steve Slaton, while capitalizing on several breaks and was never really threatened.
Offensively, particularly in the run game, the Mountaineers looked good enough to take on all comers.
Defensively, it appeared that the project is one that is still in progress.
Still, as has been said here recently West Virginia does not play as demanding a schedule as most of the other BCS title contenders, so they are a contender by default as much as they are by merit. Still based upon last night's first quarter, they deserve it upon merit.
